Welcome to the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development’s (NICHD) National Children’s Study (NCS) Archive.
The NCS Archive provides researchers with access to data collected from more than 5,000 children and their families who participated in the NCS Vanguard Study between 2009 and 2014. The NCS Archive is a combination of a web portal and a secure analytic environment. The web portal includes a public-facing website, and, for registered users, access to additional features such as web-based analysis tools, summary statistics, interactive documentation (instruments, guides to instrument operational data locations, etc.), semantic queries, and a data catalog. Using these tools, researchers can search for and find metadata from all phases of the study in one place, and access study documentation to determine if NCS data will be appropriate for their research needs.
Accessing NCS participant-level data and samples for analysis involves submission of an application and supporting documentation. All requests for data and sample access are reviewed by the NICHD. Data analysis is then conducted in a secure analytic environment.
The NCS Archive development team would like to acknowledge the role of the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute and its BioLINCC Program in the approach used in the development of this website. The NCS Archive code was based on the success of the BioLINCC framework, which shares many of the same advanced features and a well-defined, flexible workflow for request submission and fulfillment.
